Well today it rained. Our first irish rain storm. We have been so lucky with the weather. Knocking on wood. Mikah and I packed ourselves up and walked out the door. Not even two steps out we were drenched. Mikahs coat turned out to not be so waterproof and her boots neither. We shouldve brought and umbrella. My legs were soaked but I had nothing to complain about. We walked to the Gresham hotel which was our meeting place for the tour guide to New Grange. We waited and waited and finally he showed up with a huge Lithuanian accent. Not even from Ireland, and giving us a tour? We payed our dues and went on to drive through the beautiful scenery. Atleast what we could see; most of it was covered by blankets of rain and sheets of mist.
What we have learned today about New Grange I cannot even put into a paragraph. It is something to be experienced. The history and intelligence of the people all these years ago from 3,200 BC is astonoshing. How astonoshing you ask? Well they picked white stones from 19 km up the valley and brought them back to use on their buildings. No wheel used, they said it could be done by the river. They also brought over gray stones about the size of a great wooden desk over 15 km up a hill. There were about 52 used for the one structure.
When you're a dublin this is a must see. Its something that's left for the imagination in places. How did those stones get up there. How does this all balance. How did they calculate that on the shortest day the sun would shine through the box ontop of the door into the tomb. What are these markings on the rock's. These answers well never get..
We then went to Murrays pub and had some Cider and Heineken for the first time in ireland. Which was pretty awesome, the band was even playing too.
Sweet dreams from Ireland xx
