Well this is going to be a long one. Three days of interesting experiences. Leaving us with another lesson learned.
On the 17th we decided to go to Kilmainham jail. After walking for an hour we were super cranky but exited to see the jail. Everything got better when we saw our tour guide with his sexy irish accent. This jail is where many war rebels were shot and hung for leading the 1916 rebellion also known as the Easter rising. One of the rebels also got married a few hours before his execution, chained up while saying his vows in the Catholic chapel in the prison. They only had 10 minutes together with a guard in the same room. How hard would that be knowing you were going to be a widow and still marrying the love of your life. Hard to imagine. This prison was also one of the first ones to have individual cells and the men were separated from the children and woman. Yes children were also in this jail. I also highly recommend this tour to others coming to Dublin, seeing such a piece of history and the thought that went into the construction. There was a lot of natural light because they believed that it would make rhe prisoners look at the better side of things and the windows were also faced up to make them look at god. The prisoners were also separated so they could think about their sins. We were so tuckered out after this walk up hill we took a bus back!
The next day we planned a full day trip to the Cliffs of Moher. Which is on the western part of Ireland. Had to get up at 530, get ready and get on the bus a 20 minute walk away from here. Our bus drivers name was Wayne, he was a true Irish man. Gelic was his second language and spoke about his country very proudly. Shoving information into our heads about everything we saw on the trek. The eastern part of ireland has rich limestone soil which is very good for the grass. Growing big strong horses! In the western part there were many rocks on the land. The people who lived during the time of the famine got kicked off their nurished land and had to leave to the western side of Ireland. Desperate to make food to last the winter they had picked up probably two thousand rocks big and small of of their land and used them as fencing. These fences are still up to this day, sturdier then the fences built now. The ruins from the houses are also still there.
The cliffs were super windy but more amazing then the greatest writer could describe with words. Breath taking views. Youll just have to look at the foto's!
While driving we got some Galic lessons and there was a sign in galic from a restaurant. This is what is says; Masal beag dubh bar. It means little black ass bar litterly trsnslater from galic.
There is a foto of rocks with grooves in them leading to the ocean. This is the Limestone reacting with the rain water and eroding grooves in it from the rain. An amazing sight, the photo is also only a small part of the beach.
Ofcourse we also stopped in Limerick. We read a book by frank mccourt in grade 12 that was about this little town. We had seen the castle and bridge he threw the book from. Pretty cool being at that exact place that it happened at.
Even after our long day we went to the bar that a girl from our room found. We walked in and the older couple she met the night before welcomed Avital and us right away. There was also a birthday party going on. We had a few pints and then there was a free round of shots for everyone there for the birthday. They were all super nice, the bar was like a family get together. Those are the bars you want to go to!
Today was going great. Had a great night at the bar the night before, we were also feeling more comfortable with the city. Went to go get pizza and then head to the Temple bar market. We decided to wait oit the rain by going back to the hostel and putting on some warmer clothes cause it was pouring at this point. We were one block away from the hostel when a man grabbed my purse with his hands. Trying to break it, I fell onto the ground into a puddle. He was still ontop of me trying to rip my purse off. I yelled mikahs name and she came and punched him into the side while i was kicking. He finally let go and passed me my umbrella. And yelled out to everyone watching" whats wrong with you i just bumped into you you stupid cunt." I dont know what was up with this man but he was trying to get everyone to think i attacked him. Its nearly two hours later and my hands are still shaking. I couldnt have done it without mikah if he tried for longer he might not have to be able to still have children.
We are okay and my lip was just bleeding a little bit. You can never be to careful walking around. No more purses from now on. Fanny pack only!! And were getting another knife maybe I can even hide a samurai sword in my jacket.. well be more careful were only here till wensday.
WE ARE FINE AND NOTHING GOT STOLEN. Aint nobody messin with us.
